Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

6M easy early this morning down the standard Sunnyside route on a cool morning once again (40 degrees)...fall is here in Idaho.  Nice run, nothing special to report.

Total time: 45:30ish  (Stratos 2 - 87 miles)

6.25M at lunchtime on beautiful day...60 degrees and no wind.  1M easy (6:30) then the rest at MP (5:59-6:17) which felt really good.  Officially withdrew from Salmon marathon as I didn't want to risk any injury/muscle issues from running on 21M of rocky/gravel/washboard roads.  I am planning on a hard 20+M with Pat B (sub 7:00 pace). on that Friday before the Salmon race instead.

Total time: 38:45  (Stratos 1 - 89 miles)

Summer came late but at least autumn arrived on time...

Nice run Jeff. Do you like the Saucony Stratos shoes? I noticed they were on sale.

From jtshad on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 12:47:07

Thanks, I am feeling pretty good. I officially withdrew from the Salmon marathon today, just didn't want to risk it on the gravel and rocky roads. Thanks for offering to run it with me, even though it looks like you are now leaning towards St. George again! Maybe we could hook up the weekend of 9/12-9/14 for a longer faster training run?

As far as the Saucony Stratos, I have several pair of version 1 which I used to wear as my racing shoes as they were relatively light. However, I now race in different shoes and am using my remaining pairs as trainers. The are comfortable but not duarable (350 miles lifespan). Now, the Stratos 2 and 3 are a bit more durable but heavier and I have not used them, but instead paid a bit more for the Saucony Tornado 2 or T3's ($49 at Big 5) and had good luck with these for training shoes that I can buy locally for a good price.

I that about doing Salmon as a slow training run. But TOU is the following week and I might run that as a slow training run to figure out what race I want to do in October (STG or Boise).

Tough choices...

From jtshad on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 13:23:08

I hear you, I thought about TOU as well, but it is too close to TCM where I want to peak like you did for Poky!

Let me know if you want to hook up for a run the weekend of 9/13 for a long training run.

From wheakory on Tue, Sep 02, 2008 at 14:35:50

Jeff - I'll let you know. Now that Poky M is over I need to make some decisions on what I want to achieve the rest of this year. TOU would be fun to run since I've done it the last two years, but I don't want to hamper a race in October either.
