Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

10M early this morning.  A warm morning (65 degrees at 4:30am) with a slightly breeze out of the NE which is unusually.  Went longer today as I was feeling guilty for only getting in 1 run yesterday.  Good pace this morning, ending up with a 7:33ish avg. pace.  Started off a bit quicker (8:02) then pushed it up to the 7:30 range then saw another "rabbit" runner and pushed down to a 7:00 pace for the next mile to catch her (a good runner name Nikki who was moving this morning!).  From then on averaged about a 7:25 pace for the remainder of the run which felt nice and easy.  I WILL get a lunch run in today (7 or 8 miles).

Trigon 2 - 374 miles

8M at lunch on a nice bu warm and very humid day so it was hard to really get a good gear for this run as I ended up with a 6:49 avg.  Ran 1.5M wu with Dan S then increased the pace some and got 1 MP mile in, then the humid started taking its toll.  Ran around a 6:40ish pace for the remainder of the run.

Trigon 1 - 487 miles

You saw another runner? Wow! I don't think I've ever seen one in the early AM. A few walkers and lots of bikers (heading to work), but no runners.

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 10:22:47

I actually saw 3 runners this morning! The last few days I have seen at least 3 runners each day...other masochists and people who don't get enough sleep.

Nice run Jeff and nice easy pace not trying to beat yourself up after the awesome half marathon you had.

Did you decide on what shoes your going to get?

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 14:50:51

Thanks! I ordered the Banditos.

From Tom on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 14:57:04

Jeff I've been running in Banditos once a week or so for that last couple of months and I really, really like the shoe.

They are only a little bit heavier than the Adidas Adizero flats I've used for 1/2 marathons and considered for a marathon, but they are MUCH more comfortable after running a few hard miles in them. The Adidas seem to always give me blisters by the end of a hard tempo run or race of more than 5-6 miles and I feel beat up for a couple of days. But no blisters with the Banditos and I felt pretty good last week after running in them just over 11 miles at a decent pace down a steep, pounding canyon run. I'm looking forward to using them for SGM. Hope they work well for you.

Oh BTW the Banditos look pretty snazzy too. I think Kim told me the other day they looked 'sexy'.

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 15:00:21

Tom, thanks for the feedback, look forward to trying them out. I have only ever run in Saucony's (I do have some La Sportiva trail shoes that I have logged about 150 miles in), so trying a new brand will be interesting.

Keep up your great training. Are you running the Provo River HM this weekend?

From Tom on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 15:04:20

Yes I'll be running PRHM sporting my sexy Banditos ;) With the latest race changes it looks we could be in for a faster course than we've had for a few years.

From jtshad on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 15:05:57

Good luck, I will await reading your race report...go rock that master's group!

From Tom on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 15:12:14

Thanks Jeff. With you just entering the ranks of the Masters it certainly makes it much tougher for the rest of us to crack the top 3 but we'll give it our best shot.
