Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

5:30am...slept in, tired...4 easy untimed miles with Moxie on a cold morning.  (Ride)

6 very easy miles at lunch today on a beautiful day for a run.  I think that my chronic left hammy pain may be sciatic pain.  Have to look into this more.  (Mirage)

Something to ponder Jeff...

I've noticed that your training isn't flowing as smoothly as it was a couple years ago. I've noticed it because I'm in the same boat. We've logged a lot of miles and we aren't 25!

The good news is that I've found, with the exception of the marathon, I can still run the same basic times from the 5k to the half marathon by reducing the volume, adding in some real speed work, watching my diet, and cross training.

What do you think?

Rob, thanks for the thought. I would agree that after 8 years of steady/increasing training for marathons that I need to look at training differently. Yes, because I am older and less resistant to injury. But also due to changing motivation and focus/goals in my life right now.

2013 has been a different year for me. Ever since TCM in 2012, racing has not really interested me, and thus training has decreased. I am running more for enjoyment and fulfillment and to be around others I care about. It is about helping Justin and being active so I can live a balanced life. Lots of other things are more important to me (family, faith, work) and running helps me stay focused on these and not take too much focus away.

So, for me I am cruising right now, enjoying x-training (biking, lifting more) and having fun. One more Boston training cycle coming up soon and then see where I go from there. Maybe it will be trying to run a faster 5K to help Justin continue to improve into high school XC and track!
