Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

I finished in 1:17:50 (1:17:36 on my watch) in 3rd place...officially.  Rode the bus to the start with Jeff Fogg, then saw lots of friends and other runners I know.  Bumped into Rob Murphy and Rob Rohde and got the start.  This was either going to be a hard fast day or an easy fun day.  The lack of any real training since St. George ended up making my decision for me.

Started off fast and felt good through 4 miles, then my left hammy and glute and lower back started to lock up.  Mile 5 was a transition, then from 6 on I felt the issues were not going to let me run fast so I went into cruise mode for the rest of the race.  Rob M. passed by me running great at 6 miles and was moving out.  If I had seen Rachelle driving again after about mile 9 I would have asked for a ride (my hammy and back were on fire!).  At around 11 miles, Rob R. passed me as I was just running easy, then John Taberna as well.  Oh well, just one of those days!  At 12 miles I start to push a bit to catch Rob and John and we all finish within about 13 seconds of each other.  Since I stuck in it, I wish I would have pushed harder for the 15 seconds, but once you are out of race mode it is hard to dig deep.  To our surprise, Rob Murphy missed the one and only turn on the race and ended up doing and extra mile and finished 4th...a real bummer as he was tearing it up.

Stuck around to see friends, run a buddy in, eat some food and talk and get the award for 3rd place.  Now off to home for chores and seeing the band that played at Kami's birthday party this summer at a local restaurant.  My left leg is really sore...hammy and lower back are killing me!

Went out tonight to see the band that played at Kami's party this summer and drown my aches and pains (and blow off some more steam from the race and the recent work stresses).

Your a heck of a runner Jeff and you did a great job with the soreness going on . I hope a speedy recovery for you.

I'll let you know when I head up to IF again.

Jeff, I could definitely tell it wasn't the usual Jeff Shadley out there today. That's how it is though, if you're out there laying it on the line on a regular basis, sooner or later you'll have one of those days.

Still, a pretty impressive 2010 for you and you have to be happy with that right?

Thanks guys. Yeah, the last year has been a really good year. This was a race that was either going to be fast or easy and my body said easy today! Rob and Rob, you guys ran great, it was really your guy's day today!

From Walter on Sun, Nov 07, 2010 at 10:09:16 from 24.10.169.110

Great run out there Jeff. Sounds like it was a bit hot and a fast start for you all.

From jtshad on Sun, Nov 07, 2010 at 10:18:12 from 69.20.183.178

Walter, it was a bit warm and the first few miles are pretty quick. I was feeling good through mile 4, then my body just said let's go easy...so I listened! Still a good solid run, the lack of training and more than 3100 miles just caught up with this old man today.

You did good Old Man. Nice race for taking it easy. You've had quite a year. Congrats!

Top 3 on a pretty crappy day? Sounds like you're doing just fine. Afraid of what you would have done if you felt good!

From Superfly on Sun, Nov 07, 2010 at 19:50:54 from 208.117.127.110

Nice job Jeff. Solid mid winter race if you ask me.

Awesome race Jeff, you really kept it together while all your body parts were locking up on you.

Can you please explain to me how someone takes 3rd overall while taking it easy??? THAT RIDICULOUS!!!! :) :) :)

I hope your leg and back are behaving today. (Blame it on the neighbors.)

You're amazing! :)
