Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

4:30am...3 miles with Moxie.  Shin still bothering me. (Ride 3 2015)

No lunch run today. Took my son to PT to work on his calf (gastroc tendon and hamstring tendon strain) and also asked about my shin.  I am struggling to understand how his coaches "system" is working if over half his faster athletes are injured mid season due to frequency of speedwork/timetrials and volume.

We all need to get our regularity of our stretching/strengthen back on par.

Agree with your observation. I see that around here as well. Achilles blow outs. Not good long-term for a young runner.

1. Mor and more, I'm avoiding "speed work" for 9th graders if that means longer intervals at race pace or faster. Aerobic development, general athleticism, and true speed should be the priority.

Intervals on Monday, more intervals/time trials today. Recovery days he still has them push the pace. Justin says he is worn out going into every race so far this season (in addition to now being injured).

I have already had one conversation with the coach(es) about training/racing expectations and communication...looks like more is needed. I don't want to be a bad "sports dad" but this is about my son's body and future in the sport, not about their ego and "system". They need to train the athlete as a person, not as a widget in a system.

It's important to keep the easy days easy and fun and time trials are usually fruitless and pointless, especially during the season and especially if the coach is actually expecting fast times. You can only go to the well so often!

I try to ask myself, "would I be looking forward to today's practice if I were on my team"? Because if it's not fun in a sense you will loose them.
