Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Stayed up late last night with a little summer party at our house with friends having a few laughs and some good drinks.

Ran the 1st annual Kelly Canyon Half Marathon as part of Ririe Days.  Pat B was the RD and really wanted me to run it to get a good time.  Drove up with Andrea, McKay, Lynette and Kari to Ririe and caught a ride with Pat to the start at the ski lodge.

This race starts with 2M of downhill, 1M flat, 0.5 hillclimb and gentle down hill for 1M before totally flattening out.  Started off fast due to the hill, hitting the first 2M in 4:50ish average and I was trying to hold back.  After this I just got into a groove effort wise and cruised along in the 5:55 range for most of the rest of the race.  A few slower miles on the gravelly winding road (6:10ish) and for the last mile where the headwind and the nearly 100 mile week caught up with my energy level and slowed me down a bit.  Overall 1:15:45 at the end of a big week and nearly matching my PR.

Updated for splits:  4:49, 4:58, 5:24, 6:02 (uphill), 5:47, 6:15, 6:12 (last 2 on gravelly roads w/headwind), 5:58, 5:57, 5:58, 5:58, 6:03, 6:07 (headwind), 0:18.   Pretty sure I could hit this one in sub 1:15 (1:14 even) if I geared toward it specifically and tapered a bit.  Next year, baby!

Kari was second overall in 1:31, Andrea 2nd woman in 1:33 and Lynette came across 3rd in 1:34.  McKay had calf issues and just coasted in (including stopping to talk to his wife less than 0.1M from the finish) to avoid injury (still 3rd male!).  So, in my truck we had the top 3 women and 2 of the top 3 men at the race!

Left pretty quickly afterwards to get home and get out to the Melaleuca summer party at the owners ranch...very hot out in a open field topping 95 degrees.  I am now trying to cool down in the basement.  The run and the hot weather really played havoc on my stomach today.

So you win a half marathon... by 15 minutes. And almost run a PR. And almost run 100 miles this week. Sounds like a nice day.

By the way, how steep downhill were the first 2 miles for you to run 4:45's?

Great job as always Jeff! 15+ minutes until the next runner arrived is amazing! Glad your late night party didn't effect anything...

Well done on winning the race and running close to your PR, especially during a heavy week!

Thanks everyone.

Jon, the downhill is about as steep as that first downhill mile after the halfway point at St. George. The uphill at about 3M wasn't too bad and the rest of the race was absolutely flat. Miles 5-7 has some dirt/cobble winding roads that slowed me up a bit (to about 6:10 due to lack of traction and dodging big rocks).

Jeff nice job. And the stomach upset is the best complement your body can give you after a hard race, from my experience :)

Wow, such a great race. Great work!

Nice Win! Good Job not taking a nap for 15 mins and then out sprinting the 2nd place guy when you probably wanted to...

Just kidding, nice solid time all by your lonesome.

Great win Jeff. Nice opener. Was that the fastest because it was the only point in the race when someone was even in site of you?
