Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

Slept in a bit and went out after sunup and ran an easy 6M without a watch.  It was cold out (2 degrees) but I layered up so well that I was sweating profusely...except that my feet were cold.  Nice run in the cold.

It was cold this morning and I wanted to run faster, so I hit the gym for a 7M run.  1M warmup, 5M at MP, 1M cooldown for a total time of 43:45 (6:15 average pace).  Now off to a slower work week.  (Stratos)

6.25M at lunch today in cool weather (17 degrees) but bright sunshine.  Ran 1.5M with Dan S. then the rest solo in 46:04 (7:22 average).  Nice run.  (Progrid)

Could face going to the gym again this morning, so I ran slow and easy outside in the 12 degree weather.  It wasn't bad except my glasses kept freezing up since I had on a balaclava to keep my nose warm, which condensed my breath on my glasses.  Kinda hard running with ice on your specs, can't see to well.  Even with this lack of an ability to see, I finished the run in 48:45.  (Trigon)

6M at lunch in 20 degrees and cloudy conditions.  Ran the first 2M with Dan S until he had to pull off then the rest solo.  Finished in 43:35 (7:16 average) for a nice easy run.  (Progrid)

6M early in warmer weather with about 1 inch of snow on the pathway and a light snow coming down.  Nice and easy pace in the fresh crunch of snow in 49 minutes even.  (Fireblades)

6.1M around the greenbelt at lunch on a warm day (27 degrees) and a slick and snow covered path.  Nice easy run in 46:30.  (Progrid)

Last run of 2009!   7.25M early before Kami had to go to work in warmish temps (26 degrees) on the semi-plowed but still slick Sunnyside pathway in 59:58.  Nice finish to the year, just easy and reflecting on the year.

Total mileage for the year came out to 3,760 miles.  That is the equivalent of running from Key West, Florida to Cumberland (small town on Vancouver Island), British Columbia!  So I ran clear across the US and into Canada...not a bad running year!

Congratulations to the Idaho Vandals (my alma mater) on the gutsy win against Bowling Green in the Humanitarian Bowl, 43-42.  What a great call on the 2 point conversion.  This game reminds me a lot of the 1998 game against Boise State where Idaho won on a 2 point conversion in OT to go to the 1998 Humanitarian Bowl against Southern Miss (which Idaho won).  That UI-BSU game was the best game I have ever seen...this one a close second (along with the BSU win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl).

Happy New Year to the FRB!

Stayed up late last night with friends playing the Wii (the kids are awesome on Guitar Hero!).

Out the door at 8am for a run with Andrea and Lynette...and about 3-4 inches of snow!  The streets and pathways were deep with snow and it made it a slow slog while more snow was coming down.  This was going to be a long run, but with the road conditions we were tired and wet by 11.3M so I called it a day.  Total time of 1:37:30 for a slow, slushy start to 2010.

8M with Andrea and Lynette in more snow in 1:06:30.  2-3 more inches last night on top of the icy slick remains from yesterday so the roads were slick and deep.  We tried to run on the roads in the car tracks (good thing we go out early, otherwise this wouldn't have worked).  It started snowing hard in the middle of the run and the snow was cold and it stung when it hit your face.

Right at the end of the run we had to help an older gentleman push his car out of a snow bank...Caddillac's are not made for Idaho winters!
