Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in < 4years.

No racing, retired.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

Personal:

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.
Protect me, for I am devoted to you.
Save me, for I serve you and trust you.
You are my God.
Be merciful to me, O Lord,
for I am calling on you constantly.
Give me happiness, O Lord,
for I give myself to you.
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive,
so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord;
hear my urgent cry.
I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble,
and you will answer me.  - Psalm 86:1-7

10M from the hotel up Antelope Rd to the top of the hill at a 7:17 average pace.   Quite a good hill workout, I wish I had hills like these at home.

Bad night at the hotel last night, they put us next to the smoking area and I was all stuffed up at the start of the run.  Plus we had neighbors in the hall that were slamming doors and yelling until 1am. Told the front desk at they took care of us by moving us to a different floor, putting us in a huge suite room, giving us a free movie and a snack pack...way to go Hampton Inn Layton (have been reliable since we started staying here).

Today with the family at Raging Waters. Had a great time, the park was not crowded at all due to the lower temps (high 70's) so no lines for the water slides and the wave pool barely had anyone in it.  We had a great time just playing with the kids in the water and both kids loved the slides.  Count all the stair climbing as 1M easy.

8M early this morning from the hotel after a better night sleep.  Went up Antelope Road and turned off before the big hill and ran up a different hill through a neighborhood where I knew there was a city park with a bathroom for a pit stop.   4M uphill, 4M downhill in an easy 1:02.

Taking the family to Lagoon today with friends then heading home tonight.   Had a great day at Lagoon (count all the walking as 1M easy) except for one little incident.  We all went on the ferris wheel (huge one...hundred feet tall) with Kami and I taking our daughter and friend's son, and the other kids riding with them.  Well, when it came time to get off, we were just barely at the bottom near the "official" unloading area when it stopped working.  They were able to get our car unloaded, but our son, friends and their daughter were stuck at the top for 45 minutes...all of them kinda afraid of heights.  Kids were freaking out!!  Gave our group (and all the others stuck) free dinner certificates but the kids were a mess...crying, wanting to leave, wanting to "sue Lagoon" and/or tear down the ferris wheel!   Took the kids to Lagoona beach and they calmed down finally, but what an adventure.  Our son actually did great and was very brave while on the ride.

5M very easy this morning.  We didn't get back home until almost 11pm and I was tired after the long day at Lagoon and the drive.  Hit the snooze a few too many times and woke up at 5am (instead of 4am) so I had to cut the run short.  Back was a bit stiff due to the day walking and drive home.  (Trigon)

Nice run on great running day at lunch.  Ran a progression run with Dan S for 6M, starting at around 7:45ish and progressing to a 6:49 for mile 6.   I then took off for the last 1.3M at an average 6:14 pace.   Overall average of 7:02.  Nice and easy as my back is still a bit stiff. (Ride)

7.7M early and easy this morning down Sunnyside to Snake River parkway and back with a loop through the neighborhood.  Back stiff again, too much mileage?  (Trigon)

4M at slow MP at lunch time on a warmer and sunny day in the desert.  Just some easy miles with the back feeling better.  My back is stiff in the morning, good during the day, and then starts hurting again in the early evening...(Ride)

1 hour of tennis for the first time in a LONG time.  Timing way off (especially on the serve and forehand).  Backhand was about the only thing working!  Fun to get back on the courts!

Normal 7M run early and easy this morning down Sunnyside to Snake River Parkway and back home with a loop through the neighborhood. Back not stiff this morning, but my knees and shoulder are sore for playing tennis last night! (Trigon)

8M at lunch on a sunny warm/hot day.  Started out planning a hard 4X1M workout, but after the 2M easy warmup with Dan S I knew "hard" was a relative term.  Splits were disappointing as my legs just didn't have any juice today: 5:45, 6:03, 6:03, 6:16 (almost didn't do the last one, so my heart wasn't in it).  0.25M recovery between splits and 1.25M cooldown back to the office with Dan S again.  (Ride)

2:00pm - feel like crap...light headed, cramps in stomach, legs stiff, back hurts now...I think I ran too hard at lunch!

3M bike ride with the family...just trying to be normal around the family, I didn't ride hard due to achiness. Count as 1M easy.

Still feeling the effects from yesterday and back a bit stiff again this morning, so I took the advice of Kory and Dan and just didn't run and slept in instead.  I will go for a easy run at lunch today (in the heat, so easy with lots of water stops).   Thanks for the advice guys!

10M at lunch on a warm sunny day.  Just a steady even paced run at a 6:48 average...overall felt good, no back pain and more energy due to taking the morning off.  (ride)

13.1 at an average of 7:20 this morning on a solo run through Snake River Landing then around the greenbelt and back home with a 1.5M out and back east on Sunnyside.  Started slow, middle miles all under 7:00 pace then the last 3-4 a bit slower as I was running low on fuel and my back started to get a bit sore.  Time for that massage my wife got me for Father's day!
